Dev Anand Passed Away



Dev Anand, The ‘Evergreen Romantic Superstar’ of Indian cinema, passed away last night in London, following a cardiac arrest. He was 88.

One of the most handsome actors to have been a part of Indian Cinema. Dev Anand enjoyed decades of ruling the silver screen and his fan following was amongst the highest of any of Indian superstars. Since his debut in 1946 in ‘Hum Ek Hain’, he went on to be a part of countless superhits and done many  classics like Paying Guest, Baazi, Guide, Jewel Thief, CID and many more.

Dev Anand was also a received ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Award’ in 2002, and also Padma Bhushan in 2001, for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. He had won two Filmfare Best Actor Awards, one for “Kala Paani” in 1958, and the other for his most memorable movie “Guide”, in 1966. He also entered into other fields like direction and production of movies in past 10 years. He even co-produced the English version of Guide, with Nobel Laureate Pearl S Buck (‘The Good Earth’).

Sunil, His son was with him when he breathed his last. Dev Anand had gone to London for medical check-ups, as he was not keeping too well since the last few days. He was in pre-production of his next movie ‘Song Of Life’, which was to be shot in America. Indian Cinema has lost another gem this year…::(
